Oreo Truffle Balls

Here at Generous Kitchen, we have been
anxiously awaiting the arrival of someone special...
for nine months!

Last week he finally arrived;
he's healthy, handsome, and 
practically perfect in every way.

His mama requested nothing from us
other than Oreo Balls.
Seriously, after giving birth- when you can ask 
people for anything...

She wants Oreo Balls.

So here they are!
We know he's not big enough yet, 
but we can't wait to share one of these
tasty treats with our
newest little mister one day.

In the mean time, make some for yourself
and enjoy your own beautiful family.


Here's what you do:

Blend:
In a food processor 
1 bag Double Stuft Oreos


If you don't have a food processor,
dump the oreos into a sturdy ziploc freezer bag
and mash them into tiny pieces with a rolling pin.

Pour:
Smashed cookies into a large bowl


Add:
1 (8 oz.) package cubed cream cheese


Mix 
the cookie crumbs and cream cheese
with your hands
(don't be a sissy, it's really fun)!



Place the "dough" into the refrigerator to chill
while you cover a cookie sheet with foil
(this makes clean-up much easier).

Spray
your hands with cooking spray before rolling
out the dough to keep it from sticking to you.

Roll
the chilled dough into 1/2 inch to 1 inch balls
(you should get 35 to 40 pieces).
Place on the foiled cookie sheet and into the freezer.


Melt:
1 cup of chocolate chips
(we used 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips 
and 1/2 cup bittersweet chocolate chips).

Microwave for approximately 1 1/2 minutes.
Stir every 30 seconds. 


When the chocolate is hot and melted
Add 2 tablespoons of crisco to thin the
chocolate and keep it shiny.


Dip:
Each oreo ball into the chocolate
and return to the cookie sheet.

Try this method:
Place a ball of dough into the bowl of melted chocolate.


Using a large fork, roll it around and to the side of the bowl.


Balance the chocolate covered ball on the fork.


Use a second fork to coax it onto the cookie sheet.


Chill
the chocolate covered oreo balls in the freezer
until the chocolate hardens.

If you like you can melt some white chocolate chips in a 
double boiler and drizzle it over the top of the
chocolate coating!


You can store these in the refrigerator or freezer,
but we like ours best really cold!

Oh, and you're going to need a huge glass of milk.

  1. Well now I kind of want an oreo ball. But I don't want to have a baby to do it. And I need them calorie-free. :)

    You know there's always reduced fat cream cheese and oreos. That sounds kind of like health food, doesn't it? ;)
    And about the baby thing, yeah, I think you've had enough babies. You're probably due some oreo balls in retrospect!
